The Worth Of Man

What is the worth of a man?

Is it in the might of his fist,
or the cash he has in hand?
Is it the Rolex on his wrist,
or his castles built in sand?

Is it within his church of choice,
or the spirit of his speech?
Is it in the wisdom of voice,
or his boast that he is weak?

Is it the car in his garage,
or his house that stands so tall?
Is it the star in his mirage--
his “ego” that states he’s small?

~~~~~~
A man his worth-- is what he does,
to improve the lot of man.
No resting upon what he was--
he helps now-- because he can.
A man his worth-- his helpful hands,
these hands he no longer owns,
extended to his brother man,
he’s beyond just flesh and bons.
His actions will show his true worth,
his honor tills a better land,
A smile that seeds brand new birth,
through action-- he’s the hope of man.
George
Well,
I thought this poem was "worth" at least one response so; I thought I'd write one.
Reasonrhymer, this wasn't the most meteorically correct poems, but the point is well taken. I especially liked the pun on the some religionist’s egotistical statements they are "weak or small" like there is some “worth” in making such statements.
All in all a nice poem. Keep up the good work my friend, we as humans sometimes need the reminders of what you said here.
People I guess can say anything of their beliefs but the proof is in the pudding. It‘s kind of like reading about making this delicious pudding and then talking about how good it‘s going to taste but “never” doing the action of actually creating it.
You left us with something to think about; “that lending hand to others;“ really, is what is “worthwhile and may be even spiritual,” thanks.
Thanks,
George
Nightlife calls me.
Through her I am free.
It's the only way to be,
all caught up in a mystery!
Born with full moon fever,
I can make you a believer!
For I am the moonchild,
truly born to be wild!
Dear George,
This does indeed deserve many many responses. All the stanzas could stand on their own and collectively, what you have scribed here is powerful, and words that are everlasting. I loved this. Excellent rating and going into my favorites! Take Care.
