Default Spark Your Creativity #3 (Visual Writing Exercise)

-----------------------------------------------

The above artwork is from two very talented artists as featured on the most recent Poetry of the Visual section of my personal website.

The titles are respectively: "Haley" and "Fructose"

Spark Your Creativity #3 (Visual Writing Exercise)
Choose either of the works to write about... Now consider the dull gleam of Haley's eyes... Consider the cornflower-blue of the sky in the Fructose piece... Consider all of the qualities that makes the piece: ART!

Now with those qualities and essenses in mind - choose your exercise:
  1. Write a Free Verse, freestyle & freeflowing poem of between 20 & 30 lines. With this exercise - I prefer the style to be non-rhyming, though the occasional rhyme never hurt
  2. Write a work of fiction or creative non-fiction of less than 300 words.

The use of the artistic works' title (Haley and/or Fructose) must be used at least a total of 6 times within a given submitted piece. If you dare - try your hand at writing both a poem and an essay... But remember: Have fun AND Happy posting!

Default Daddy's Munchkin Angel
This poem is for the pic of Haley and even though that was the title I made my own for the poem

Daddy's Munchkin Angel

Dear Baby girl,
I sit and write this letter tonight in hopes that you'll understand,
Daddy's not gone forever, just until the sands of time turn in my favor,
Life is similar to a rubber band you can stretch it till forever but eventually it breaks,
Haley, I would never intentionally place pain upon your heart,
You are my soul, my soul is my emotion
My emotions illustrate my love for my daughter, You...Haley
The exhiliration from merely your smile,
"Thank You god for blessing me with beauty's seed"
I look over you as you rest peacefully,
Checking on you every hour to make sure you're still breathing,
I always say, a day without my little Haley is equivalent to a day without water,
But a lifetime without my Haley is like never knowing how it feels to love and be loved,
I vow to myself and you that your life will be of limitless possibilities,
You can do anything you want,
I hope that you have an open mind and will be acceptant of everyone,
Warm feelings trickle down my insides,
I know how the virgin mary felt when she had the son of god,
You're my little angel, Daddy's little girl,
Haley,
H for happy
A for amazing
L for lively
E is for enchanting
Y is for young
Daddy's gone in the physical but not from your heart baby girl,
I love you Haley aka Daddy's Munchkin Angel,

Love,
Arsenio M. Green aka Daddy Bear

Well hey ARSENIO - nice piece about Haley - it's more of a prose piece - but I like it. Well done!

Haley's Letter

Haley-girl... Restless are your eyes,
such sadness in the midst of them,
such longing for the truth of love
and real peace and the immediacy
of freedom and justice;
Retribution lies in your soul dear.

Who beat that out of you
sweet Haley? You're much too young,
I see the tear of a 50 year-old man
in your eyes dear.
The epitomy of hope lost,
never to be renewed again.

Shall you emancipate that hate
from your eyes Haley dear?

"I miss the naivete that once
shined sparkling and gleaming
like baby-browns are supposed to do
Haley..."

"I would do anything sweet dear
Haley to give that innocense back
to you. Now I sit behind cerulean
bars, far from the sea of independence..."

"...Forgive me Haley - so sweet you
were... Daddy didn't mean
to touch you like that; so unmerciful
I was."

Haley reads the squalor within
the sordid & diseased letter:
Whispers with hate on her breath,
"Tell it to the judge, you
filthy bastard."

I liked the letter theme, and thought I would try my hand. I never wrote a letter before, and am truly enjoying learning to expand my horizons as a writer with this Forum. When I looked at the picture of Haley, my mind went in a particular direction..and here it is.

Dear Mother & Father,

I still have this picture.
Very much is Haley apart of me.
She was different from most girls, and
never quite "felt" like them.

Haley was teased, and other children
treated her like one of the boys.
She loved trains, and often drew the same train,
that lead to her secret place.

Haley hated to get dressed up
with lace and ponytails.
In that picture, Haley's glare is far and placid.
Memorable was her outlandish behavior,
dressing up like her big brother and
calling herself Hal.

"Playing" Hal was her release; her desire.
When Haley left home,
she decided to find her secret destiny,
that her childhood train traveled to.

All grown up now and named changed to Hal,
few family members accept Haley.
The one's that do, really do not understand.

I no longer have to pretend.
No longer do I have to explain.
I feel comfortable now; I feel free.
I know because Haley in the picture was me.

Please accept me for me,
for who I was, and for who
I have become.

Love,

(Hal) ley

WHOA! Beautiful write KIM - Love the "intimate" twist of Haley becoming Hal and asking for acceptance. A different type of poem from you - you continue to surprise with your styles - Very nice write!
