DANCE OF DREAMS
Dance of Dreams
I have never seen, such a beautiful sight,
You are stunning, dressed in blue,
I knew I would ask you to dance tonight,
My heart sees, only you,
I summoned my courage; I gathered my thoughts,
Then I gave the room a long glance,
Off on my mission, the dream that I sought,
I asked, if you’d care to dance.
My heart beating loudly; I felt you must hear,
I choked on the words as I asked,
Afraid you’d say no, possessed by this fear,
Afraid I would fail at my task,
So prepared was I, that my efforts would fail,
My ears didn’t hear, I confess,
I stood in a daze, then suddenly amazed,
For I realized you had said, yes.
I took your soft hand, oh this feeling so grand,
As we, embraced for the dance,
How we danced as we did, I do not understand,
For I seemed to be lost in a trance.
We danced every dance; everyone has departed,
The musician has left, so it seems,
We dance with such ease, as if we’d just started
We are dancing the dance of our dreams.
Though the music has stopped, it is heard in our hearts,
The melody lingers all night,
Unaware that the darkness is breaking apart,
Violated, by the sun’s early light.
We hold our embrace, at a much slower pace,
Not wanting the night to be done,
A soft, tender kiss as we move in one place,
Just wanting to hold off the sun.
We linger a while, kiss again, then a smile,
As night breaks apart at the seam,
It’s ending we know, yet we’re in denial,
We are dancing the dance of our dream.
