Default my father ljgp Started This Thread
His tones boomed I’d cry
and lie that I never did
It was the dog which felled the vase
Before he ever set eyes
upon subject of my lies
my mother would look bewildered
at my cry and yelp head bowed
but she too knew about sinews
that whined in the body
in anticipation of he
who angrily seeked blindly
to set our wrong ways right
His voice was that of a master
And I knew that I was his son
he staked his claim on me
He never saw me run
I would make my unbroken voice
still higher in pitch for him
so he knew that I knew I was his son
as though fearing he thought
it was to him untrue.

My teacher at school asked
to hear my voice ring free
But I refused to drop the voice
that sat on my fathers lap
And then to him I came back
A man once told me that
It was wrong to expect
My father to pierce with light
what between us was black
Your father he said is too old now
The motion’s set as he slows
And so its hardening not still
you he said are still young
with strength not leaving
more still to come
more to come that can bend and turn
what arches over and dims the sun
reach out to him and see
what your father does want you to see
one can want but also not give
to others clarity
reach so that all is there
passing between you two
no passing so shapes a child
like the world whose shape is seemingly shown
through the vision of our father

i like this. seems to send a message something of lightening the darkness of communication that is overshadowed by the 'father son relation'. i feel that and can relate. something i've struggled with my entire life is to communicate equally with father figures.

i'm having trouble with how the "not still" part connects in this wording. nice write.

I'm one who has never met her father. Never had a daddy. My Mama played the roll of both I guess. So I can't really relate to this piece - it made for an interesting read though. I thought it was a commentary on the concept of authoritarian figure who kinda scares you, yet you still love? IDK - I found this piece a bit odd at the same time ==> Interestingly odd, since it's on a topic that I don't know much about.

This passage just makes me think that there may have been a bit of respect, but not much love? Am I reading this wrong?

Anyway - thanks for the share.

“I do use powerful words to evoke emotion, but also to stimulate imagination. If one can 'see' the words dance before
his eyes - then he can likely feel, smell and even taste them as well. And I do thoroughly enjoy really tasty poems.
My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...
My poetry is like a piece of General Tso's chicken tossed in ghetto soul.” ---
