Ever dreamed of becoming a novelist???
Well - here's your chance - in a small way.

The 1st Line Examples:

"My name is Ismihail."
Moby Dick - Herman Melville

Renowned curator Jacques Saunière staggered through the vaulted archway of the museum's Grand Gallery.
The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown

The Santa Anas blew in hot from the desert, shriveling the last of the spring grass into whiskers of pale straw.
White Oleander - Janet Fitch

----------------------------
The 1st Line Game

Rules:
  1. Write your OWN memorable 1st line
  2. Name your ficticious novel
----------------------------

OK - I'll go first...

Cameroon instantly started running for her life; she just didn't know it was her life that was chasing her.

“I do use powerful words to evoke emotion, but also to stimulate imagination. If one can 'see' the words dance before
his eyes - then he can likely feel, smell and even taste them as well. And I do thoroughly enjoy really tasty poems.
My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...
My poetry is like a piece of General Tso's chicken tossed in ghetto soul.” ---

A man begins dying at the moment of his birth. Most
people live in denial of Death's patient courtship until, late in life and deep in sickness, they become aware of him sitting bedside.

There once lived in a sequestered part of the county of Devonshire, one Mr. Godfrey Nickleby; a worthy gentleman, who, taking it into his head rather late in life that he must get married, and not being young enough or rich enough to aspire to the hand of a lady of fortune, had wedded an old flame out of mere attachment, who in her turn had taken him for the same reason.

Drawing deep breaths, Jessica leaned against the rock; it swelled out of the ground like a giant cancerous growth. Around her, the night-swept landscape of sand, cacti, and mountains seemed as desolate as an uninhabited alien planet. Her labored breathing was the only sound in the stillness.

Princess Andromeda stood on the very edge of a ledge three-quarters of the way up the cliff above the Royal Palace of her mother, Queen Cassiopeia of Acadia, holding out her arms to the wind.

Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Piviet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you'd expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn't hold with such nonsense.

I wish to be a sailor. I was born in the old city of York, where there is a broad river, with ships coming and going. When I was a little boy, I spent much of my time looking at the river. How pleasant was the quiet stream, flowing, always flowing, toward the far-away sea.

There was something strange about the house where I grew up. There were shadows in the corners and whispers on the stairs and time was as irrelevant as honesty. Though how I knew that I couldn't stay.
