Default The Abraham Cherrix Story (what do you think?) MsJacquiiC Started This Thread
By Martha T. Moore, USA TODAY

Abraham Cherrix, 16, went through chemotherapy for Hodgkin's disease that left him so weak that his father carried the 6-foot-1 youth from the car to the house. Doctors tell him he needs a second round of chemo to get rid of the cancer that reappeared in February.

Abraham says no, and his parents are backing him up.

Now the Virginia family is in juvenile court, the parents are charged with medical neglect and the Accomack County social services agency has joint custody of Abraham. The agency asked the court to order the boy to undergo chemotherapy.

A court hearing continued Tuesday. Each side plans to appeal an adverse ruling, family lawyer Barry Taylor says.

Abraham and his family are treating his cancer with an herbal remedy four times a day and an organic diet under the guidance of a clinic in Mexico. The remedy, called the Hoxsey method, has not been clinically tested, and there is no scientific evidence that it is effective, the American Cancer Society says.

Although he is not old enough to cast a vote or buy an alcoholic drink, Abraham argues that he is old enough to make decisions about treatment to save his life.... [read entire story]

I think the kid should be able to have a say in his own life and the treatment of his own health - Seems his parents were even backing his decision. I heard an interesting comment about it: "Of course, if he decided to kill someone, he'd be entirely responsible for the decisions he'd made."

I tend to agree - I think the state has no right to force him to do anything he doesn't want to do.... It's not as if he's a murderer or something and is a ward of the state - I thought this was the United States of America -----> Seems a 3rd world communist decision to me...

What do you think?

Jacquii.

“I do use powerful words to evoke emotion, but also to stimulate imagination. If one can 'see' the words dance before
his eyes - then he can likely feel, smell and even taste them as well. And I do thoroughly enjoy really tasty poems.
My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...
My poetry is like a piece of General Tso's chicken tossed in ghetto soul.” ---

How can the doctors be so sure to say "GET RID OF", when the Cancer has already reappeared. I have a tough time with the doctor's statement.

Abraham says no, and his parents are backing him up.

I have respect and happen to agree with the young man AND his family, on this GOD-fearing decision.

Now the Virginia family is in juvenile court, the parents are charged with medical neglect and the Accomack County social services agency has joint custody of Abraham. The agency asked the court to order the boy to undergo chemotherapy.

Most holistic remedies are not clinically tested or backed by Scientific Analysis, because these theories, remedies, and the people who perform them are not taken seriously. Where do they think "Modern Medicine" comes from?

Although he is not old enough to cast a vote or buy an alcoholic drink, Abraham argues that he is old enough to make decisions about treatment to save his life....

Incredible!!!!!

I agree with you 10 to the 3rd power percent, Ms Jacquii!!!

I heard an interesting comment about it: "Of course, if he decided to kill someone, he'd be entirely responsible for the decisions he'd made."

Enough said!

Seems that we cannot get away from an Aristocratic Communist (I like that word, Ms Jacquii, it is a perfect fit) Society. No matter what, they feel the need to "govern" this decision. The family and definite Abraham should have th final say, and not the court. Yes, if there was foul play, then a different song would be sung.

This is what I think? Thank you Ms Jacquii, for posting this, and bringing this to this Communities attention. Kim
Jacquii.
