Default ePub downloads, good or bad? calash Started This Thread
Recently we have seen a mini explosion of eBook readers that have gained popularity. My wife personally has the Nook and loves being able to carry a small library with her to work, to the beach, or anyplace else. She also has Wifi and Wlan on it allowing her to download more books from just about anywhere.

Being a geek who loves this type of tech one of the first things i thought of, for my personal site, was allowing online works to be downloaded via the ePub format to these devices.

This comes with some positives and negatives.

Positives:

-Drives traffic to the site and to the works.

Negatives:

- No tracking ability once downloaded
- No version control once downloaded
- No direct feedback from ePub to the author.
- No method of recall.

I am curious as to what other online writers think. Would you object to your online posted works being available for download? Would you like it as an option, global, or not at all?

I doubt anyone would want to download anything I've written but don't think I would upload anything I couldn't control.

hmm - interesting question. But for me - I'm a bit oldskool. I don't get the ebook thing and I consider it to be a wee bit of a fad. A passing fad? Who knows. I suppose there are some who said that about the internet, "Oh - that computer stuff is just a passing fad. Bah!" And just look at the net now LOL

Someone posted something earlier about publishing via the popular Kindle format. But IDK. Being oldskool - I like to say, "If it's not published on paper, it simply ain't."

But in the end - it's always nice that we have options. If it can get you additional readers, and those readers are reading ebooks, then by all means - publish to the ebook format Besides - an option is just that: an option. Some will take it. Others will leave it. But it's nice to have the option available.

Jacquii.

“I do use powerful words to evoke emotion, but also to stimulate imagination. If one can 'see' the words dance before
his eyes - then he can likely feel, smell and even taste them as well. And I do thoroughly enjoy really tasty poems.
My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...
My poetry is like a piece of General Tso's chicken tossed in ghetto soul.” ---
