Dear poetic community, please share why you write poetry, stories, and etc. We know WE ALL LOVE IT, but WHY do you really write, and be specific. Does it mean something special, do you accomplish something, etc.

Poetry for me is a release of tension kinda - It's a way for me to say what I normally wouldn't make known... Well that's aside from the fact that I just love the idea of being a poet & offering some creative. Poetry is just another way of expression to me. It allows me to be me & unapologetically ME. Ya know?

But really - just the idea of releasing pent up tensions and frustrations, while being creative at the same time & offering some kinda positive contribution to society is its own reward really.

Hope that makes sense -------> What about YAWL - Why do you write?

Jacquii.

“I do use powerful words to evoke emotion, but also to stimulate imagination. If one can 'see' the words dance before
his eyes - then he can likely feel, smell and even taste them as well. And I do thoroughly enjoy really tasty poems.
My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...
My poetry is like a piece of General Tso's chicken tossed in ghetto soul.” ---

I always loved writing at school and kept the love affair going throughout my adult life. Its nice when others are positive about your writing but I really just write for myself. Is that selfish, do you think?

At this point everything has been already said but....

I know that I started writing at an early age because I didn't feel I had anyone to talk to or someone to listen to how I was feeling.

Later, I began to write as a way to vent, express, and a way to escape for a moment from my present situations and just write, relax and be at peace.

Now I write to challenge myself, be creative, try new styles and just because it makes me happy and it represents the many faces of "V"

I write because something writes me.
I write because it is a need worse than
any addiction. It is a passion, a calling;
words to share. Lifetimes begging notice.
You can equate my mind to a field
of freshly fallen snow. Each footprint
in the snow is a thought. Most often
when I write...... there are NO footprints
in the snow........

I write poetry only when i'm feeling a really deep, raw emotion. This is usually when i'm depressed or really angry or sad. I write to get my emotions out. I write to show other people how i feel, and to share my experiences with people. I write because it helps to relieve the pain i feel, so i don't turn to more brutal methods of pain relief. I write because it helps me to move on.
