Zare's rear flank rippled as the chilly wind blew across the plateau and his rump. He wanted a warm stall, hay to lie on and perhaps a mare when he woke from a long nap, but that was not to be. Though he wasn't tethered, Zare didn't think of taking off for warmer climes, he'd met horses who had stranded Tomas, it wasn't a pretty sight. The other palace mounts talked of how Tomas had changed from a personable, enjoyable rider to the angry man he'd been conveying around The Five for the past ten years.

The human stood on the edge of this plateau, his cloak billowing in the wind, looking down at the village below. The object in his hand looked like something painful Tomas would've removed from his hoof. This time a red glow from the stone lighted the smile on Tomas' face! He was tall, for a human, Zare thought, and a fine stallion, judging by the number of fillies made mares from outings with Tomas. It was after the disappearance of a certain mare, Tomas changed to a silent, often cruel human.

Tomas returned to Zare and put the stone back in a pouch in the saddlebags. Zare nuzzled the bag with his nose to see if it was secure. Tomas mounted, turning Zare's head in the direction of the village below. Zare had taken only a few steps when Tomas pulled back on the bit. He looked at the human walking into the village they were going to enter. Zaire felt the tension in Tomas' legs slowly easing as they watched the progress of the man through the village. Tomas turned Zare in an opposite direction from the village.

Zare turned back toward the village. He and the human had been by this village many times in the years of searching. This time, he felt the pull of the one who knew what he was. It was time for a father and daughter to meet.

Thank you, Starry, but this is just a scene from the book crazymamma and I are writing. If you look up Eilia - plotline kinda... it will give you a lot of the details of the story and has links to the chapters and scenes written so far. Crazymamma is working on Zare's Flashback at the moment. That will be posted after we've had a go at it, lol.
hugs,
Gail
