Cassandra

I met up with my friend Cassandra
Asking if we can meet for lunch
She turn me down
Saying she was busy
She has chapters to read; papera to write
and club meetings to attend
We will meet up some other time
I promise you that
Years later, I saw Cassandra.
I wanted to celebrate my new job
And a new man in my life
she turn me down
Saying she was busy
she has projects to go over; reports to review
and her boss is on her butt
We'll meet up some other time
I promise you that
Years later I saw her face
And tired eyes
I want to celebrate the birth if my first child
She turn me down
Saying she was busy
she's traveling all over the world
and dealing with family issues
We will meet up some other time
I promise you that
Well, she kept her promise
We finaaly met up with each other
and told her about my life
While she sat and listened
In her grave

I love this poem because it can be related to fact, there are people in the world like that. I don't find it common, but I know there is. I loved the ending, it is sad but perfect. This is a really good poem, awesome work, thanks

Ironic, isn't it? Someday, we'll do lunch, kinda busy right now, life has a way of taking control, this poem shows just that. Gotta take time to smell the roses (I can't remember who said that first) meaning slow down, enjoy life. Quoting myself, "Life is short, love is long." I love this poem, but have some suggestions.

paper(s)
birth (o)f my first child
She turn(ed) me down
We finaaly(finally) met up

Great message for those of us who are too busy to slow down. You'll have to come to an abrupt halt eventually. Wouldn't be better just to slow down first?

hugs,
Gail
