the chase is all. Wild fire, a boom,
a crash, a rock, the nine and ninety ways
that plumb lucky bird
will have a family Christmas
and I the darkest evening of the year, again,
under “The Giving Tree”

Still, I can dream : 90 minutes in heaven,
my halo slipping only slightly
as just in time, my scheme
to bring home to “Holly Springs”
by judicious application
of Acme’s Holy Smokes,
the bacon, or rather, that bird, comes true
