I love this one also Ms Jacquii. One can feel the pain, yet, I pictured myself, you, and the girls playing doubledutch on the street, long braids cascading in the wind, singing out of tune, while neighbors (nosy) watch and grin, talkin secret porch talk, like they do. But we are laughing, smilin', and having a good time, and givin nosy neighbors, a show, in so many ways. Especially poignant for me were the following lines----->
the depth of affliction
known as human destiny,
coping openly with misery addiction
like the weaver – his cotton-gin;
like the rum hound – his Captain Morgan’s
and Long-Island-teas;
like The Messiah – His “good book”;
like the jeweler – his rarities,
his tiara, his baguettes,
his bulk of platinum,
his bars of gold, his silver chains,
his bijous
and his loupe
How brilliant to list the analogies, if you will, adding real life scenes to the "movie", with each metaphor. I really fancy this type of writing. Pure, clean, real, feel good, and most important is the power in the summation in the last lines--->
embrace my savvy-gleaming gaiety,
blossoming like beautiful Spring flowers
'til my heart-of-heart’s content.
This left me warm inside Ms Jacquii, really did. You broke it down with this one, depicting your "real life" experience, and tis why the words pour like paint, and your message was scribed cleary and well received. I felt your "conquer", if you will. You go girl, keep doin' your thing!!
P.S. There's that "Long Island" Iced Tea again! LOL!! J/P!!
