ashes to ashes in the lake of fire
no love anymore on this funeral pyre
i have my two pence for the ferryman
to take me across the lake, to the land of the dead
you hurt me real this time you know this truth

i've fallen into the lake of fire
love is burning on the pyre
ashes to ashes
all falls to the dust
what we felt must have been lust

Love is the option we should take
but how can i, when all i feel is hate
the ferryman watches as he rows
taking all this hate with him in tow

i know someday this will go away
but not today, i feel so irrate
we reach the shore without delay
he points in the direction i must take

on the path you go alone
on your own, no one goes
i smile as i leave your place
cause i know you were such a waste

DAMN! Put out a lot of feelings with your poem RYAN... An interesting write as perhaps in the vent and rage there is some simblance of healing... Speaking about the content - interesting you bring up the "Lake of Fire" imagery, as I was just watching a History Channel special about the Greeks and Hades.

The Following Text Is Quoted:
i've fallen into the lake of fire
love is burning on the pyre
ashes to ashes
all falls to the dust
what we felt must have been lust
Your 2nd stanza is crucial really, as it does evoke the image of hell hounds laughing perhaps... Saying "I knew it all along - It wasn't love" --- But it presents a sad image as well - You must've been hurt really badly - The word "lust" resounds like a timpany thump.

Interesting share - Welcome to the Community as well - Please familiarize yourself with the JPiC Posting Policy before posting any additional pieces... ALSO feel free to introduce yourself via the Member Introductions section

“I do use powerful words to evoke emotion, but also to stimulate imagination. If one can 'see' the words dance before
his eyes - then he can likely feel, smell and even taste them as well. And I do thoroughly enjoy really tasty poems.
My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...
My poetry is like a piece of General Tso's chicken tossed in ghetto soul.” ---
