Welcome to the greatest show off earth!

Tonight for your delectation and delight
We’ll bring to you unearthly sights
Throughout the galaxy our circus roams
We are performers par excellence
Artistes upon our thrones
From the Horsehead nebula
As far as Gormanghast
We have acts that will enthral you
With disbelief they’ll make you gasp

It is my honour and my privilege to introduce to you
The wondrous beings from far flung worlds
Who are gathered especially for you!

My beloved audience I welcome you
To this marquee of mystery
This tent of tantalisation
This bigtop of bohemia

I stand before you adorned in frockcoat of fiery red
A topper as dark as night itself crowns my regal head
For I am the ringmaster I hail from Mother Earth
It is from me this show is sprung, for it was I who gave it birth

From Mercury comes a magician
He’s the lord of Mystification
As he disappears wraithlike before your eyes
You’ll be astounded by his prestidigitation
Many folk have attempted his tricks
None live to tell the tale
You my beloved audience
May be here when he fails

From Venus I bring you a ventriloquist
None finer throughout the stars
During our last gig we had to leave fast
After he seduced the tsarina of Mars
She didn’t realise it wasn’t the tsars voice
They made love long into the night
When she heard two voices calling her name
The breakdown caused her to turn white
White is the colour of some folk
But to a Martian it’s the colour of sin
Many years will have to pass
Before we will be allowed back in

From Saturn I give you a sword swallower
A being with throat made of steel
Applaud mightily, I beg you please
As he devours the sword of Damocles
Not all is dread and doom though
For he too will have his fun
For the finale, his curtain call
He will swallow the flaming sun

WOW ..... I don't wanna see that circus lol..... this could be a scary story rather than a poem. I know I would buy it ... because I love things that scare the pants off me lol... Excellent write Stuart
