Snow falls on me, around me
Adding another layer of insulation
Against the cold for spring’s growth
As I wait for the bus.

A bird flies from one branch to another
One chirp, then two piercing the quiet

A car passes by its engine muted
Slush hissing at the tires as it passes by
Snowflakes dancing in its wake
as I wait for the bus.

Hi how are you? The imagery of this poem reminded me of Ernest Hemingway. The way your words painted the picture in my mind was ill. Just with a few words you place an entire world before me. I was really amazed at how such a short poem could display such imagery. Very nice of work. keep dropping gems like this

Thanks so much! I've had this image in my head since that day over a month ago. I described it to MsJ and she suggested writing about it. I usually like prose but this seemed to fit it so much better.
Again, thanks for the comment.
hugs,
Gail

A lovely tranquil write Big Sis! It's funny, because the image of waiting for the bus is like "hustle & bustle" to me = like a bit of city madness, even the country bus scene can have it's hectic bit of excitement... But you set a scene of solitude.

I wrote a poem some time ago in which I used the phrase "la-di-da happiness" -- and this poem epitomizes the concept. So carefree and easy, without a worry in the world, even though the damn bus may be late LOL - Anyway - A lovely write Gail = Thanks for the share!

Jacquii.

My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...
My poetry is like a piece of General Tso's chicken tossed in ghetto soul.” ---

Woohoo! I'm so glad you liked it, lil sis! It was such a peaceful day, something I haven't forgotten. It still brings forth a special feeling when I think of it.
I hope Kimberly and others will take the time to feel is as well.

much hugs, lil sis!

What I didn't think to add until now is that I did feel as if I was the only person in the world then. Snowflakes falling all around me blanketing the world in a hush and even the one bird who dared to venture a few chirps went back into its hideaway because it got no replies.

Such a lovely feeling, the kind of quiet a snowfall brings.

hugs
Gail

Yes indeed - I always think of winter as the "silent season" especially when snow is concerned. It can be quite magical & majestic watching a really busy snowfall. And as opposed to a thunderstorm all the noise, snow is silently beautiful - if that makes sense....

That's exactly the way to describe it! I stood on our deck, one snowy day, and the silence was overwhelming. I can usually hear cars on the main road about two miles away but this day it was nothing but silence. I was alone under a silent quilt of white and loved it! Too bad snow has to be so damned cold, lmao.
