Introspection Jus_Be_U Started This Thread
why are we as men
"afraid of nothing"...
...except love
afraid to drown in someone elses soul
and let their love invade our lungs, our minds, our hearts, and our souls as well
why are we afraid to die and be reborn as new men
with selfless motives and an honest heart
sharing things with our women that we thought we would never share
because we were afraid to admit these things and confront ourselves
afraid to confront the emotions that are attached to events and times our lives
why cant we share our hearts?
we have shielded our hearts for too long
afraid to let anyone else hold it
for fear of being hurt ourselves
and isnt that the true reason
we as men have a problem with love?
we are afraid to deal with emotion
so we detach ourselves
always avoiding what we feel
because we have to be "strong"
but what is stronger than the strength of a black woman?
who created the earth, the sky, and the stars
who created mankind
who carries and gives life
what is stronger and more beautiful than a black woman
who has carried the burden of the world
and then come home to carry the burden of her man
and instead of loving these women
we push them away
because in reality
we are afraid of the strength they possess
afraid that if we get too close
they will discover
how weak we are without them
never stopping to think
how beautiful things could be
if we made that same sacrifice
that a woman makes day to day
adam gave eve his rib
but eve gave adam her heart
so historically, we have always taken
more than we have given
and through it all
the black woman has been there
now you tell me...
...why are we afraid to love
what has been there loving us forever
and what is stronger and more beautiful than a black woman?

Bravo, Brvao, Bravo!!!! JBY! This piece is incredible! WOW!!! Are you going to publish this piece? This is a topic not spoken of freely or on a comfortable level, among some Black Men, and here you write the thoughts of many. I think this is done beautifully and very true indeed. Keep the pen flowin' brother!!

A very insightful and flowing piece! Why do you limit it to Black women, though? As a Red woman, I can tell you that we too have been tested and tried and have risen to meet those challenges! I think you have answered your own question in this poem. In matters of the heart, men know that women are stronger and men fear showing weakness. I don't think men fear loving, I think they fear showing their love. Anyway, this was a very thought-provoking read and I can give no higher compliment than that! Thanks for posting!
