Way back in the depths of history
When this world began
Amongst all the protozoa
There alone stood
Me Mam!

When the Viking hoard invaded
Led by Godred, an angry young man
With hands on hips
And tight set lips
Against them stood
Me Mam!

The Holy Roman Empire
Were the next to have a go
The men ran to the hilltops
Their faces they wouldn’t show
Caesar was unconquered
He had never been beat
When he tried to set foot upon our land
Me Mam told him. “Wipe your feet”

Me Mam wasn’t a big woman
Only five foot tall
But cross her at your peril
It was you who’d take the fall

Well Caesar laughed at me Mam
She didn’t look like fighting stock
When she hit him with her besom
By Christ he got a shock
He ran back to his galley
His tail between his legs
She’d shown the jumped up tyrant
He wasn’t quite the best

Now if you study history
Read of all the Roman campaigns
You’ll never hear of Me Mam
She caused Rome too much pain

So all you would be invaders
Who think to take our soil
There’s one who’ll stand against you
Your schemes she’ll likely foil
You may have a big army
But to win?
Don’t ever presume
Cos on the shore to meet you
Will be Me Mam armed with her broom
