Mellow Noontime
Mellow Noontime
A band of light lifts across the field,
The tuft of grass by the road is golden.
Your wind chimes play lazily
Around the big, white house.
The carpet mellow from hours of daylight,
The big pine trees in the backyard
All in a row. The missing child
Who walks through this house
With small, bare feet, and fingers
Barely touching the walls, whispers,
“Nobody’s home.”
Child of full awareness, hearing
The ducks nestled under the porch,
Child of animal presence, feeling
Wonder and desire wound into one.
Across the field, the band of light
Returns, the tall grass sways,
Dreams of past life alternate
With the quavering light behind the clouds.
