My Friend, The Shadow
My Friend, The Shadow
Nothing more than a mere figment
But as my friend and i play
I feel happiness flush through my body.
This person, so real to my eyes
Follows me, jumps with me
Mimics my every move.
She comes with me to school
She is shy in the classroom
She hides.
I attempt to draw her back
But she doesn't respond.
I begin to coax her from her hideaway
But the other children scold.
Who are you talking to
If you'd be so kind
There's no-one beside you
You're out of your mind!
Tears start to fall and i tell them off
Of course she's there
And i run outside to the playground.
I scream at them There!
See, i told you she's with me
Can't you see her? She's clear as day!
But the children just laugh
And they point and they taunt.
Of course she's there
The sun is high
But look at her now
When Mr Sun in the sky
Goes for a wander behind that cloud!
Oh you're going to be ever so proud!
So i turn very slowly
And i stare at the ground
As the sunshine vanishes.
My friend slowly fades
Away, into the earth
Nothing more than a shadow.
