THE QUOIN

Really, everything is uncertainty,
nothing is known.
So-called truth
reaches somewhere
only half-way in.

The rest of what is occurring
is as a building not tested
in any medium, a fragment
that will not surrender
to every empirical investigation.

Let the fell sing songs of sin,
settle their changes as they will :
among their crass certainties
they will not find an answer,
for this lies in the quoin known as the soul.

Alan McAlpine Douglas

(Challenge words : really everything uncertainty nothing truth reaches somewhere
occurring building tested medium fragment surrender fell sing settle changes among)

quoin: noun: the keystone of an arch, cornerstone
fell:
adjective: (of persons or their actions) able or disposed to inflict pain or suffering

Hello Alan!

I'd have to say that challenge was very well met! Those were some difficult words you had to work with but you managed to join them with depth as well as coherency. Your usage of fell as a noun was quite interesting!

Dear Tree,

Again thank you. I love doing challenges.

The def of fell I used is as adj :

fell: adjective: (of persons or their actions) able or disposed to inflict pain or suffering - and the noun following is assumed, ie men, or people

I realised later that I should have incl this def along with quoin, have now added it.

Love
Alan

Dear Kimberley,

You are very kind, but I also feel very pleased to be allowed to be here - takes 2, or 20, to tango ! That word quoin came from rhymezone while I was researching this poem, but seemed to fit so precisely !

I'm very pleased you like this poem, it seems to be popular altogether !

Love
Alan
