Clickity-click, clickity-click
Steel wheels set the driving beat
Go to sleep, go to sleep
While I race with the moon.

Clickity-click, clickity-click
Whistles sound the melody
Go to sleep, go to sleep
While we race with the moon.

Clickity-click, whistles sound
Bells ring making it more complete
Go to sleep, go to sleep
Let us race with the moon.

Clickity-click, whistles and bells
Past chorus beasts singing the song
Go to sleep, go to sleep
While you race with the moon

Dear Dave,

I found this post with no comments, thought I would help, but I am at a loss - I have no idea what you are getting at, but don't take that as a crit - I am very dense very often with other people's poetry.

Care to expand ?

Love

Think of a train traveling at night with the sounds becoming a song to the weary passengers.

Dear Dave,

Well now, I did get that, but you threw me with the "beast" in the last lines - is that the loco ?

That was certainly effective, altho I would prefer to see the repeat line being an exact repeat !

Love
Alan

I like this very much.
This is a great example of how use onomatopoeia. The repetition simulates the sound of train in motion. I can feel myself traveling through the night, sleeping until the moon is gone and all the scary monsters in the dreams gone with the light of day.

Chorus beasts can be (your choice) other trains going the opposite direction or wildlife alongside the tracks in woods and fields.
