What's beyond the Shed Door
is so many mixed emotions
we laugh, we cry
from Sunday mornin'
with Devotion.

If the Shed Door could speak
what would it reveal
beyond the door
I can feel
clashin', gossipin', dancin, romancin', laughin', cryin', sleepin'...without missing a beat
give me some room
to let the kerosene
warm my feet.

Around the Royal table we all sit
Next time when you close the Shed Door

Lock the damn door would ya!

To clarify, this is dedicated to a dear friend of mine named Vernon Jackson whom has passed on. We (the gang, if you will), used to meet at Vernon's house, and go into the shed, and do all those things, mentioned in the poem. His favorite saying was, "Let's have a Vodka & Oreng, and sit at the Royal Table, and DISCUSS!" When at the Royal Table, Vernon, would always start the session, by rubbing his head and saying, "Oh, so many mixed emotions! Let's toast to mixed emotions!!! Girllllllsssss, spill the beans!!!" The kerosene heater is still in the same spot 8 years later. I do not drink however, everyone in the gang did. We all tried to get Vernon help, and to stop drinking. Vernon died from Alcoholism.

I hope that this forum can be worthy of being up to the standards of the sort of "utopia" you seemed to have with these people. I also have to say that I am truly deeply sorry for your loss.

Thank you ever so kindly Ms Jacquii, Ms VS, and TrueBlue for first taking the time to read my poem, then commenting. Yes, this poem is very dear to me, and I am glad that you both saw through to the beauty of the piece.

Very nice that you can glance back on that time and have such a witty & funny memory of a dear friend!

Hey KIM - I like this poem a lot - AND as MS VS has stated - that last line is something else - Made me laugh - Then I read your inspiration/clarification statement - Almost made me cry. I'm so profoundly sorry for your loss, but one must admit - That such a persistence of memory is indeed a precious gift!

Thanx for sharing this poem with us KIM!

Jacquii.

My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...

Thank you so much Ms Jacquii for taking time to read and comment. Yes, this was a diary of a beloved memory of a very dear friend. I did the last line in humor, cuz my friend was a prankster, and loved to laugh and be happy. Thank you again, this means a lot!

What a fantastic memory to hold on to! Sounds like Vernon was quite a guy! Loved your last line, great summary! Makes me wish I could have been in that shed with you! We are so helpless when we see the ones we love destroying themselves and so often that helpless feeling turns to anger. I neither saw nor felt any anger in this poem, just a lot of love. A wonderful write!

Thank you so much Tree for taking time to read and comment. Yes, I wanted only to portray, Vernon, as he was, which was loved. Thank you Tree, your comment truly warms my heart. Take Care.

What tender words, showing such love even after time has streached out the road even longer. Very nicely stated.
