Re: Some Computer Jargon
Yes. I shouldn't have posted such an anxty kind of poem without some sort of explanation. This poem is not the sum of my views, but rather just a feeling I was stricken with at one moment of time in my life. That is to say, in some way I feel technology and the media has changed our we act and percieve each other, to an extent ... but in some ways it also has helped spread an understanding that lends itself to further tolerance. Like most technology, computers are a double-edged sword. (Is that the saying?) I like the ability to contact people who are of different cultures and learning how much alike we are. Knowing that we are not that much unalike, essentially at least, can teach us to love and learn tolerance. Notwithstanding the fact that terrorists can steal an airplane at kill people in a skyscraper with it, [ & it is very evident that, as you said, that we are a little overly dependent on it] but, hey, being able to express your innermost self to other people, as in this forum, for instance, and connect, is great. I feel technology is natural mostly. It is a part of who we are, as humans . I do certainly try harder to be more of an optimist ever since September 11th and everything. And I am. But I am guarded. Thankfully, we do have the capacity to use a technology wisely as well as wrongly. So I do believe that technology is, yes, good and as good as the people who use it. Mankind is complex and it is hard to tell just who we are supposed to be. I think that with population growth and many of the dangers of modern living, computers are a good good thing ... for us geeks and nerds, that is. I just wrote this poem in the desire to live a life outside of the expected normal technology oriented ways. A life that somehow feels a little more real. I don't know how we are supposed to be [other than what people around us tell us] so my thoughts will, as usual, end in a little bit of a muddled way. Technology is just one tool. I hope it will help us see ourselves all as one big family. Any thoughts?
