-These Walls-
My words once found on these walls...
My life once enclosed in these walls...
My walls began closing in,
I couldn't handle it anymore.
The freedom outside of these walls
Always calling my name.

The walls have changed...
My life left off where it was
The day I left.
These walls, still closing in.
I'm paranoid.
And unable to forget the past.
It's these walls that haunt me,
The outside world calling my name again.

Everything has gotten smalled,
It seems...
My parents around me,
Nothing has really changed...
My dad still the same alcoholic,
My mother still her same old self,
My sister, well...we're back to fights and arguments....
That's just what sisters do.

The barren walls of the past
Have written on my walls of
Forever and today...

The pitter patter of the rain on the roof,
Remembering that long lost sound
And how it put me to sleep.

Each waking night
And each memory
Became entangled in these walls
That are no longer mine.

Beautifully painful. What does it mean that the walls are no longer yours? Has the actor escaped the pain, or allowed it to be controlled by another?
I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

The walls I was talking about...I moved out of my parents house and my sister will be moving into my old room. Meaning those walls are no longer mine. The pain has all the time been controlled by another, but now that I am married that pain has disappeared. I am the one talking in this piece. There is no acting in it. This is all truth.

Hi Holly,

Did u mean "Everything has gotten smaller"

I understand the explanation, but within the poem itself you write:
The barren walls of the past
Have written on my walls of
Forever and today...

almost as if you took some of the pain with you. I'm happy to hear that that's not the case, though. The poem is full of angst but after your explanation I can see that the last verse is a cutting away of the pain, sort of.

Very well done on the follow through of the emotion and the flow of the piece.

Yeah I did mean 'smaller' sadly I had not noticed that until like a few days ago when I was back visiting my parents for the first time since I left. I still have some of the pain I had when I left but it's nothing compared to what I did. As for the stanza that you have shown...the walls had since been painted over but, the writing I did do on them when I was there painted on my walls of forever and today. Thank you for you wonderful comment!
