Warning: Poison

"It's poison, pretty deadly,"
Or so that's what I hear.
But it smells like mommy's baking,
And it looks like daddy's beer.
Fearlessly, I take a sip,
Hey it's pretty good!
Tastes almost like you'd think
Grandpa's cigar smoke would.
I remember why I'm drinking this,
It's because I want to flee.
The memories come rushing in
As the truth comes back to me.
"It's poison, pretty deadly,"
I wonder if there's a cure?
Well now, we'll find out...
Pretty soon, I'm sure.

Dear Serenity,

WoW!!!!! This is one powerful poem!!!! I hope I am on the right track with this poem. First, the title is a sure fire winner! I love it! {Warning: Poison}, is great!!! I knew after reading just the title alone, that this poem was a must read!!!! This poem speaks volumes to the young and older population alike! I love the way you seem to play with the imagery, attaching a label to this "theme", if you will, as if delightful to par take (and to some it is) of this "poison", even giving a reason why some do. Although, I am not saying that, if you drink, you are a bad person, no. We must acquire an educated, non-abusive, and responsible life style & palette, if one chooses to drink. The title reflects this, as you wrote as a warning, and that it is after all "Poison".

The reason being it is "pretty good", and that's when it all begins. As a teacher and a caring citizen, it brings to mind the many sessions we have with our students and in our neighborhood about abusive drinking (at any age). When asked , Why do you drink?", they respond by saying that "it is good", and the feeling that comes after that..."The fleeing", you speak of.

Most start by "hearing" about it, just as you scribe hear, then "trying" it, then concluding that "it is pretty good", is oh such a familiar web, then the cyle begins to weave. I felt many emotions in reading this. The title caught my eye, and the way you playfully describe the topic is skillful.

You have SOME talent young lady, and I see the apple does not fall far from the TREE! (get it, TREE, as in Aunt Tree), ok, bad joke. One thing for sure, is the fact that, I am not joking when I say, you are on your way to becoming a star Serenity. I really enjoy, and look forward to reading your poetry.

Whatever you do....do not stop Painting Your Diary!

That's a pretty poem, though I read it something different from Painted Diary, I take it literally for poison, and that this is not a person geting drunk, put a person comitting suicide. Your description of the drink is great, and through the comparisons I find myself trying to figure out which of the myriad of poisons you are describing.

I worry about you sometimes.

I thought it poison was the poison of our thoughts as they take shape and rot in our heart unused yet when you have your first taste the taste of the poison you can erase
