We Were Dancing!
When the world stopped
For some
We were dancing
When death crawled in
With his relentless task
We were dancing
The sky turned black
And the moon turned red
The sea swelled up
Way above our heads
It crashed to shore
Some were no more, but
We were dancing
While people cry
While loved ones die
As we work alongside
No time to think, cause
We were dancing
Life crashed around us
Picked up and dashed us
It seemed surreal, cause
We were dancing
Though trapped by society
Our bodies mellow
But in our minds
The swords were drawn
Stand up and be counted
One and all
Though the rebel is at war
In the corridors of the soul
As long as time
And just as old
The spine-gripping music
Had us in her hold, so
We were dancing
Hot blood pulsing
Feet rapidly stomping
Heads thrown back
Soaking it in
Hips gyrating
Wanting, waiting
For the dance to cleanse us
Again and again
So
Still
We were dancing
We were dancing
To the beating drum
The sweet guitar strum
The harmonica's haunting hum
Longing for life to right itself
In our heads the song of freedom
Played on
Played on
Played on
We continue to rise above
All
Because
No matter what
We were, and are
Still dancing!

Excellence is the result of caring more than others think is wise, risking more than others think is safe, dreaming more than others think is practical, and expecting more than others think is possible."
