The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald As Told By the Muse

Lake Superior in
a typical November
storm
1975, I was bedding
my woman lover in
the watery grave
of what would
be of 29 men
The ship was the
pride of the American
side, comin' back
from some mill in
Wisconsin
Late that night, we
heard the ship bell
ring, my lover's head was
between my legs, my
orgasm as heavy as
26,000 tons of ore,
could be the north wind
we bin feelin',
the larger the fetch,
the larger the waves
the storm's fury closed
the Sault Ste. Marie locks
they knew they were
doomed, the captain wired
in he had water comin' in
My lover and I saw later
that night 'is lights went
out of sight
Captain McSorely was a
seasoned sailor of the
Great Lakes for 44 years,
Captain McSorely, my
father who raised me with
"The Pride of the American Flag"
the SS Fitzgerald's label
Does anyone know where the
love of God goes when the
waves turn the minutes into hours
My lover and I still hear the wind
in the wires that make a tattle tale
sound when orgasm crashes, the
waves break over the railing.

Lesbian sexual energy is very powerful. If you don't make it into something bigger than yourself, it is wasted energy. I chose writing...

Re: The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald As Told By the Muse
Dear Ms Lavender Sage....as a proem before I comment...as I have alot to say.....what was your inspiration for this? OK, you are probably saying to yourself, "An Orgasm", LOL!!!.
But the second stanza...
1975, I was bedding
my woman lover in
the watery grave
of what would
be of 29 men
Sounds Oooo so mysterious or is it a fact I should know? Nooo, I don't mean, the sex, but the 29 men. What does this mean? I am excited and I almost do not want you to respond, as I just love your poetry, as I like figuring out your storems (My Word for the combination of a "story", and a "poem"). Bit of Humor for ya'....did you guys throw the feather in the Lake? Ok, I'm done. Back to my analysis...I think this was brilliant to metaphor this piece as such. Your crashing waves to the orgasm line was somethin else. My eyes were glued, my attention heightened, my back straightened in my lounge chair, and I almost plucked a feather from my dreamcatcher hanging above my bed (LOL!!), from top to bottom. As always Ms Sage Sweetwater, you simply amaze me! Please do not take my craziness as offensive (and you never have), it is truly complimentary, as you are just amazing. It's just another crazy way I have of showing that I love your work.
Take Care.

Re: The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald As Told By the Muse
The inspiration for this poem is the actual Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975, where 29 men died in a watery grave with the facts just like I told it, further inspired by the Gordon Lightfoot song. The muse I assigned is one of the women who died in the Titanic, which I have also written a poem about. She has a woman lover and I assigned the muse the title of the daughter of Captain McSorely of the Fitz, of course, orgasm is wave crashing, so I say it. Painted, I love you...to be crazy...take that feather from the dream catcher and distill some Native...make some crashing waves of your own!

Dear Ms Sage,
Yes, I found out, that was something. You taught me something, and I thank you, for I did not know this before.Do you have that poem posted in reference to the " daughter of Captain McSorely of the Fitz"? I would love to read it! My mind....(I did get the "crashing waves & orgasm" metaphor) is in the gutter, lol! Girl, may have to snatch the feather from my dreamcatcher after all! LOL!!! Thank you for responding Ms Lavender Sage, always a pleasure.

Re: The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald As Told By the Muse
Hi Sage! What a tribute to a great Canadian! Love Gordon Lightfoot! I got a little mixed up, reading your second stanza. Should that not read "in what would be the watery grave of 29 men"? Bedding in a watery grave - well, it just doesn't do anything for me! LOL! A good write, makes me wonder what you could do with "Blowin' in the Wind"! I'm afraid to ask!

Re: The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald As Told By the Muse
Hi Tree,
I read that 2nd stanza a few times, and what I have done is stayed in the past (history) of the Titanic wreck which was many years before Fitz, and the voice of my muse, McSorely's daughter, I think I have that stanza correct for the timeline,
The Following Text Is Quoted:
1975, I was bedding
my woman lover in
the watery grave
of what would
be of 29 men
but I am still studying your suggestion
The Following Text Is Quoted:
in what would be the watery grave of 29 men"?
I am studying the value of the phrase I wrote as in the past tense versus your suggestion. This is a very interesting question of editing, Tree...you are very perceptive and when my readers read my poems this closely, it very much satisfies me to know you are paying close attention to storyline and also syntax placement, and in some cases with some poems, rhyme and meter. I am going to read this over and over for quite some time and make a decision to leave it as is or edit it per your suggestion for finer readability. Now this is a very good example of constructive criticism that indeed helps us as writers! Thank you for your valuable time and suggestion, Tree. I appreciate it greatly! Be well...
Sage
