D.H. Lawrence Poetry Contest

Autographs Magazine has established a poetry contest in the memory of D.H. Lawrence.

D.H. Lawrence is known primarily for his novels and short stories. He also wrote hundreds of unique poems from many unusual locales during his travels around the world. Yet, in its entry for Lawrence, a major encyclopedia states only that he "wrote several poems." This contest is dedicated to reviving interest in Lawrence's reputation as a major poet of the 20th century.

Refer to the tradition of Lawrence himself, the poems on this site and the Writer's Guidelines section for information on the kind of poetry that we seek. There are no entry fees. We only accept e-mail submissions.

Click here to enter now. Please observe our guidelines before making a submission.

Prizes - The winner will receive a new paperback copy of "The Complete Poems of D.H. Lawrence." The winning poem will also be published in a corresponding volume of our chapbook, of which the winner will receive free copies. Entries which are awarded honorable mentions will also receive a free copy of our chapbook.

“I do use powerful words to evoke emotion, but also to stimulate imagination. If one can 'see' the words dance before
his eyes - then he can likely feel, smell and even taste them as well. And I do thoroughly enjoy really tasty poems.
My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...
My poetry is like a piece of General Tso's chicken tossed in ghetto soul.” ---
