Poetry on the subject of community is sought as inspiration for three musical works to celebrate a man and a centennial. Poets are encouraged to write about their experience of community, their sense of place, and/or the special places and people they have known who represent community.

POETRY CONTEST GUIDELINES

— The first prize winner will receive $1,000; second prize $250; third prize $100.

— The top three poems will be set to music and premiered at a concert in October, 2007.

— Composer Lawrence Siegel of Tricinium will create three musical compositions; the three winning poets will be honored guests at the premiere.

— The concert event, honoring David F. Putnam, a philanthropist dedicated to community-building, is expected to take place at the Peterborough Players theater as part of The MacDowell Colony Centennial Celebration.

— Poetry celebrating community and how individuals can inspire community is sought.

— The top +/-20 poems will be published in a booklet commemorating community to be distributed at the event.

— Works should not exceed one page to be considered. Two copies of each work are required (one without author's name and contact information, one with author's name and complete contact information).

— Poems published elsewhere are eligible (with written permission from the publisher). Poetry can be in any language, provided a translation is included.

— Reading fee is $15 (US), $25 (international), payable to Tricinium, and must be included with submission.

— Tricinium reserves the right to make no award. Judges' decision is final.

— Entries will not be returned. Submissions must be postmarked no later than January 31, 2007. Winners will be announced by March 15, 2007. To receive list of winners, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE). No telephone calls please.

“I do use powerful words to evoke emotion, but also to stimulate imagination. If one can 'see' the words dance before
his eyes - then he can likely feel, smell and even taste them as well. And I do thoroughly enjoy really tasty poems.
My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...
My poetry is like a piece of General Tso's chicken tossed in ghetto soul.” ---
