Lord, I lift my child up to You

that you have given me

I come in prayer and faith against

the things that she can't see

I wonder if she'll ever know

about these tears that pour like rain

As I lay her sleeping in your arms

and pray in Jesus name

I would be the sacrifice

I would take all of her pain

Id give my life, yes anything

to hear her praise your name

Theres no place I wouldnt go

To hide her from the storm

It's exactly what you said to me

from beneath that thorny crown

Thinkin back on all the years

I ran so hard so long

Sometimes I'd swear I looked for things

to take away my song

I know what lies out there

like a lion in the night

seeking to destroy her hope

lying waiting out of sight

I still carry all the scars

of ignorance and shame

Father, I'd do anything

to keep her from that pain

And I'm feelin pretty helpless

awake again tonite

But I know that you will help me

teach her why you died

Cuz in the end the only thing

that will matter to me then

Is to hear you say well done

to my child while I sing

Hallelujah

What a Savior

Hallelujah

Christ the King

Hallelujah

Hosannah

Hallelujah

with my child I will sing.

What a beautiful piece David! It reads as if the interpretation of a sacred baptism actually. Such an intimate portrait of traditional Father/Daughter love you've painted = Makes for a nice read = Thanks for the share

Jacquii.

“I do use powerful words to evoke emotion, but also to stimulate imagination. If one can 'see' the words dance before
his eyes - then he can likely feel, smell and even taste them as well. And I do thoroughly enjoy really tasty poems.
My poetry is an emotions-fest sprinkled with a little garlic salt, Mrs. Dash, fresh ginger and Tabasco sauce...
My poetry is like a piece of General Tso's chicken tossed in ghetto soul.” ---

David this is an amazing piece for sure. One can literally feel the "feeling" you put into this piece. It can from your abyss, from that place down deep. I am in love with this piece David, and it is going in my favorites. Such a beautiful testimony of Fatherly love from you to your daughter, and you to our Heavenly Father. I was difficult to quote as all was amazing, and I thank you for posting this. I started my day with this and am inspired.

Hi David,
You've done very well expressing the love of a parent for his child. That sort of love is so hard to touch with mere words.

Hi David,

Your poem is so inspirational.
The title of your poem, "My Child", caught my attention in a blink of an eye.
I had to stop by and read it again and again.
Thank you for sharing it with us, David!!
The Lord is with you and with your child at all times.
Blessings and Prayers,
Starry.
