My Mango vs. Your Mango nomadicrhymer Started This Thread
my mango might be ripe
and sweet
red
just the way I like to eat
yellow juices running down
my greedy chin
fingers sticky
still squeezing firmly
to get everything
out of the skin.
your mango might be hard
green
crunchy and tart
sour even
eaten with some salt and pepper
or hot sauce
brings out all the flavor.
some mangos end up in between
force ripened
hard
pretending
to be soft and sweet
just a layer of ripeness
covers
that hard heart inside
they only look good
not worth the ride.
whatever the taste
feel
or color
each mango is what it is
to the taster
none of us can taste
the other
until we bite into the same skin
only then
can we tell
the real thing.

Dear Nomad,

MMMMmmmm......scrumpshalicious!!!!!! I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!! So creative, with meanders of suggestive and pleasing descriptive imagery. Indeed, tasting a Mango that is just right is soooo satisfying. I love the title also, and is what captured my attention, along with the structure of the poem. The content was well executed, and my mind is dancin', and thank you for that!! I love the layering of My Mango to Your Mango to Our Mango, of the same skin, thus the real thing. You Go Girl!!!! Simply Mangolicious!!!!!!!!

Well...now I am hungry for a Mango! It is true that sometimes things we want and love turn out to not be exactly what we first thought they would be. I like that perplexity of life. I love this poem!

Thanks for commenting, Benny...yes, we do all have to be very discerning in this life, and see beneath the glossy surfaces.

yummm, mangoes are my favorite fruit...well, maybe behind the papaya!
