Poetry.com is a web site run by The International Library of Poetry, also known as the International Society of Poets and the International Poetry Hall of Fame --- many names for the beast...

Serious poets consider the International Library of Poetry contests and their affiliated organizations to be unethical, and their free poetry contests a scheme designed to prey on amateur poets by relieving them of their money.

The scheme is simple:
  1. You send or enter online your poem to the not-so-legitimate "Poetry Contest"
  2. You are sent a nice letter: "We have chosen your notable work for publication."
  3. You may possibly be sent an "Editor's Choice Award" like the one below
  4. You are presented with the "purchase an anthology for $45 - $50" SCHEME...
  5. You are presented with offers of "have your poem put on a mug" etcetera... etcetera...
  6. Poetry.com aka The International Library of Poetry aka International Society of Poets aka International Poetry Hall of Fame GETS FILTHY RICH!

My official stance as JPiC Administrator is that I will not perpetuate the "vanity press" fraud by endorsing and/or facilitating any Members' of the JPiC Community participation with the Poetry.com SCAM!

Below is my nice Editor's Choice Award from back in the days I believed I could become rich and famous from selling my poems --- The good thing is - I fell in love with poetry - The wonderful thing is - I didn't get suckered into buying any $45 anthologies (which were presented to me at a discount rate mind you...) --- The AWESOMEST thing is... I'm still in love with poetry!
