Keitan descended slowly in a circling manner as if his flight was only casual. Only the constant glances about gave any indication that he was looking for something in an almost alarmist mode. His eyes danced from trough to trough among the waves circling the small island his scaly wings held him over.
There! Was that a glint of green other than water?
Keitan strained his long neck back against the shove of the wind while counterbalancing with his tail to keep his flight in trim. He concentrated upon the spot of green he'd seen seeking more than the one color. If fortune smiled upon him, he'd see one of several other colors with the green.
Lavender. Keitan straightened out his neck and descended more quickly to the island. If nothing more, he knew that his journey was at last half over. Careful of the slick surfaces of some of the algae covered rocks, Keitan extended his claws as he dropped his legs into position to accept the burden of carrying his weight once more.
A green-scaled body much softer than his own and vastly smaller arose from the water at the shore. Lavender hair fluffed out slightly once more after a quick shake to snap the water away. For the most part, though, it hung still slick and damp clinging to the bare shoulders and neck of the sea witch.
"You seek me?" she asked in a voice the dragon could comprehend.
"I do. I wish to find love, but I cannot find others of my kind. I fear I may be the last."
"The ways of the universe continually change beyond our comprehension and control. Sadly, you are right about your own situation."
"Then I cannot find love?" Keitan asked.
"Love still survives. Love can still be found. However, you must be willing to accept it despite its new form."
"How do I find it?"
"In the heart of your enemy."
Keitan blinked several times as he attempted to digest the apparent conflict of logic. Then, before he could ask anything more, the sea witch slipped back into the water to disappear from sight.
