Seeing Demons (Opening)

Sometimes, I think I may have gone mad. Other times, I think that perhaps I didn’t. But not going mad may be worse than losing my sanity, in this case. Sad, isn’t it? When you would prefer to be mad, than to face reality? Then again, if Reality wishes to be so.. So surreal, then why would I want to see it?

I was one of those people that would have said ‘why me?’. But I’m not anymore. Life is what we make of it, and we have to play the hand we are dealt. Why is it then, that I shiver whenever I feel eyes on my neck? Why is it that walking down streets I live in gives me the creeps? I’ll tell you why. Demons.

Sure, laugh. Say I’m crazy. Call me a lunatic. It’s nothing I haven’t heard before. Hell, it’s nothing I haven’t thought to myself, before. But you don’t see what I see. You don’t see their eyes, the flames that dance down in their depths. And you don’t see them, when no one else can. I have. I do. They’ll look normal. Talk normal… and then all of a sudden, no one sees them. They just blend in, and you catch yourself staring…

And they see you. And then this smile crosses their lips. Like they’ve spotted a nice juicy rabbit in the grass, and they’re the hawk about to catch it. I heard once, in a movie I think, that once you see them, they can see you.

That isn’t entirely true. They can always see you. But once you see them… you get a big target painted on your back. Oh, not to kill you… but gods, they love to mind fuck you. There’s this one… she’s a lawyer. Stereotypical, I know… but holy hell. This woman is GOOD at it. I swear, she walks in, and she knows every lie you’ve ever made. I saw her in court one day… and she just… it was bloody amazing.

Sometimes, I confuse myself. We should hate demons, right? They’re supposed to be evil, dreadful things. But… I can’t help but think they get a bad rap. Don’t get me wrong, they’re mean. And they enjoy it. But it’s more like… like that’s just how they are. And it’s easier to accept, when you realize they aren’t human. There I go again… God help me, but I’m rambling.

Sometimes I think the question of whether I’ve lost my mind is already moot.

Hey SEALIAH - you've titled this piece "Opening" -----> I must say that it does indeed seem to be a fine "beginning" of a novel - like an epiphany of sorts that will lead to madness or some such LOL

Anyway - the depths of which you've described the "look" is absolutely fabulous - I caught myself staring at someone the other day who had a similar look - I think it may have been a look of unfettered disgust or something LOL

But anyway - me dreams about this sight that you've aptly defined... I think it would be wild-crazy-cool to have such an inane ability to just "see" the depths of a persons soul ----> oh wait - I think I may be able to do that alreaddy LOL - people tend to tell on themselves, however so silent...

At anyrate - I too wonder what provoked this write AND if you have any plans of continuing the storyline. If so - I definitely be looking forward to part 2!

Thanx for sharing.

Jacquii.

Well, this story is actually based on a role playing scene I've been doing with a friend. The 'speaker' in the Opening is named Keira Marie Ravana, a professional dancer. Any dancing, whether it be Ballet or Street Freestyle.

Basically, she meets one of the Four Horsemen, which are loose in the world. (There really is a huuuuuge backstory to this) She doesn't know that this guy is one of the Horsemen, of course. Because at the time she meets him, she can't 'see' yet.

That happens when she draws the attention of certain celestial beings for not being anorexic due to the Horseman's influence. (He is Famine). Curious, one of them meets her. She thinks it is a robber, until he forces her to 'see'. And then... well it takes off after that.

*grin* I'm actually working on finishing up the first chapter. So when it is done, I will gladly post it up for you guys.
