The Language of Poetry Forms

I got the most fantastic surprise when I saw all the reviews of my book that were posted at Amazon! This one really overwhelmed me and so I chose it to share with you here. It is written by Marc Ladewig - author of Odysseus, The Epic Myth of the Hero. He is a veteran, a world traveler and a language teacher.

The only problem about writing a review of a book like The Language of Poetry Forms by Tree Good is keeping the praise from flowing on and on. This is an outstanding primer for poets of all ages and levels.

The purpose of the book is threefold. The first part is a glossary of the common terms of poetry.

The second part is the heart of the book, which describes seventy-five poetic forms and then provides original examples by Tree herself. Her villanelle, Terry Grant, is a wonderful homage to a beloved brother and musician. "Across the field, his music came, at twilight just as day was done, on gentle breeze that spoke his name."

The third part deals with riddles and I found this particularly interesting not only as an insight into that ancient example of word play but also as a window into modern poetic techniques which require the reader to "decode" the images employed.

The Language of Poetry Forms is a not only a wonderful read in and of itself but it also would be a great poetry text in a creative writing class from the middle school level up to the university. It does what the ancient Roman poet Horace says great poetry does: Teach by delight.

- Marc Ladewig

Nice Tree....,

It sounds as if your
book is hitting the
right notes on the
language of poetry.

Hope it does make
it into the classroom.

Yes Delight!

Actually, Trent University is still considering it for their "required reading" list!
It IS being used at a secondary school in Barrie right now!
Things are looking up!

LOL - twasn't cleaning up after you
Just wanted to accentuate the post with your beautiful book cover - especially since we were talking about it in the Chatbox just the other day.

And THEN! Considering who very instrumental to poetic understanding your book is - I thought it only right to include the book cover! So.... Again - I say Well Done! And Congratulations on its success MS TREE

Jacquii.
