hello

I am Beki - I found this site when searching somewhere to post sonnets different than my usual places. I have been posting on the internet for almost 10 years...at one time I posted to 14 sites at once...couldn't keep up so chose the 5 or 6 best and stuck with those. My second favorite just closed its doors forever so I can afford to add another if I like it here.I have been writing poetry for over 40 years - I won my first contest at 11. I am published in many small press literary journals and a few international anthologies but most of that was in the 90's - before I discovered how many more people will see your work on the internet. I have been published in many e-magazines, including Carnelian, Rooms without Walls, Snakeskin, and The Poetry Magazine.I am an admninistrator at my home site - Arcanum Cafe, and a moderator at 2 others. My specialty is haiku and other oriental forms. I also write a lot of love poems. I usually tend to offer suggestions to make a poem stronger when it is haiku because that is my function on other sites --- mod/teacher. I will try to refrain from doing so here as I never go to critical forums because I refuse to post in them myself. I confess to being a bit of a snob - I have a reputation I have worked hard to earn for being knowledgable and skilled and I know that I am, therefore I only accept criticism from poets I consider equal to or better than myself. SO it would not be fair for me to go all heavy critique on someone if I am not willing to accept the same. I just stay away from those places.

Personally, I am a divorced (after 20 years marriage) mother of three, 2 grown daughters and my son who died last year. I am also Nana to 2 amazing little granddaughters, Gracie,6 and Bethany, 18 months.I am a circulation supervisor at a busy county library and my interest include being involved in the SCA (an organization that studies and recreates the renaissance) and collecting stuff from Disney's Beauty and the Beast (my obsession in life). I live near the ocean and have had a special affinity with the sea all my life. I guess that is about it. I look forward to reading your work and getting to know some of you.

LOL Wow....
well I see you've gotten yourself quite comfortable, and we're all glad to see you here!
Well, with your whole critique thing, as you have probably seen, we have a special critiquing section for those who want hard critique. Otherwise, the other sections are just for us to show our feelings and poems (I believe poetry is just an outlet of the soul :] Anyway, you can go as hard as you want in the critiquing section; oftentimes, I feel like I don't get hard enough critique to work on when I put poems in there.
Anyway, I love haiku too. They are so powerful, as you have to choose your words carefully.
I have been off the whole web thing lately, but I'm back, and i'm excited to get to know you!
If you ever need help, just give a holler in the chatbox-but I bet you won't need any xD

-Mango :]

Hi BEKI - what a wonderful intro! Welcome to the Community - Glad to have you with us - AND Wow! What a wonderful resume - seems you really do know your stuff! And KUDOS for getting published by Rooms Without Walls - that's one of the elite zines in my opinion - right up there with The Sun magazine - Anyway - yeah - Glad to have you along with us - And since you know your way around internet forums I won't bore you with our JPiC Posting Policy (but there's the link just in case )

At anyrate - we do have a phenomenally talented Group of Writers, Poets & Artistes - We're a very relaxed/laid-back Community actually because Yours Truly is a bit on the loony side..... Anyway - We've been online for about a year and 1/2 --- we are a small Community as well, but growing steadily! I know you will find some amazing writing - there's really all kinds for all sorts from abstract - to post modernism - there's even 1 immensely boring essay that I wrote a few years back, and MS KIM (aka Painted Diary and SuperModerator) has been writing some most fabulous short stories lately - scary stuff too....

So yes - Enough of my mini-novela.... Welcome - Enjoy AND Happy posting!

Welcome again, Beki! It's great to be able to file away a little background with the name...

It's also wonderful to have a poetess of your caliber as well, since some of us often need special critique and feedback to complete particular pieces, if you so please to accommodate us Congratulations on the grandchildren! It's always so special to have little ones running around, in my opinion...they change the quality of live and take it to a whole new level of enjoyment.

Ooooo! Great comment MS N - I forgot to even mention the Critique section - But yes! BEKI - we do have a section (often neglected ) that I'm sure you'd love posting in - And I'm sure the Poets who've placed their work there would absolutely love your personal critique on how to better their pieces - I even have a couple pieces in that section too and would love to know what you think of my abstracts.... The section is The Critique Saloon - Feel free to critique away

Thanks for the nice welcome ladies but I can't help but wonder if you really read my intro....

"I usually tend to offer suggestions to make a poem stronger when it is haiku because that is my function on other sites --- mod/teacher. SO it would not be fair for me to go all heavy critique on someone if I am not willing to accept the same. I just stay away from those places except in the forums where I have been engaged to do so as mod/teacher."

I always love helping others hone their craft of writing, I have a background as an editor as well but I feel in these kinds of forums it isn't fair to critique others when you are not willing to subject your own work to the same, so i stay out of those forums. But thank you for the invite and I certainly am willing to lend my expertise to any who want it.

and again, I appreciate the welcome and look forward to getting to know you all and your work.....

and Nomad I agree, my granddaughters are all my joy and I cannot imagine life without them. I particularly feel blessed by my 19 month old Bethany, she wa sborn just one month before my son died last year and I don't know how I would have made it since then without her...she has been our special gift to help us get through losing Caleb.
