MUSIC

Trickling lightly through the subconscious brain
Some types of music sound the same
Playing in the background of your life
Some loosen your muscles and some wind them tight
Some take us up high on cloud nine
Evoking memories
We name no names
Like a blast from a long forgotten past
They played on while we achieved our fame
Some slink around the corners of our minds
Taunting and pulling emotions like twine
Unraveling unwanted remembered sorrows
Spearing our hearts like poison tipped arrows

But the music that squats deep down in our souls
That slams and squeezes the blood so sweet
Takes our hearts to an elevated level of heat
We all know when we hear that special beat
That strumming that gets our bodies humming
The drums, cymbals or mandolin
Steel band, keyboards and guitar
The microphoned singer that weaves it all together

We can't describe or resist the pull
Jumping to our feet as we join in the dance
The pulsing veins joined at the hip
With the memories trembling on our lips
As music entwines body with soul
Time frozen in a moment more precious than gold

Symphonic reggae from Bob Marley
"Redemption Song" floats through the wind
His music gravitates through thick and thin
"Funkytown" from so long ago
Fueling the disco's ebb and flow
"Secret Love on the Side"
Still makes some of our hearts go wild
Now there's Shaggy, Sean Paul and Kanye West
50 Cents, Norah Jones and Bonnie Raitt
Old time Jim Reeves and some country kin
Still get dragged out every now and again
Pavarotti and Placido Domino
Roots rock, hard rock and Calypso
Celine Dion, Shakira, Green Day
All light up the world in their own way
But whatever comes and whatever goes
On throughout the world
Music brings us through the throes
Of life and living, we all know

Dear Nomad,

I love the rhythmic flow of this, and as well I should, because it's MUSIC yeah! I loved how the journey takes us from the feeling of how Music makes us to feel, the particular genres. One thing is for sure, Music is in all of us, whether we dance, whistle, tap our feet, clap our hands, hum, or even deaf. It is a part of our lives, and always will be, till the end of time. I really enjoyed this scribe, and thank you for sharing!

Beautiful, Therese! These are words that everyone can relate to. I have a cousin who is deaf but when the drums start, she dances, feeling the beat through the vibrations in the floor. We forget sometimes, just how much we are influenced by the music we hear. TY for posting!

Thanks Painted, Benny and Tree! Thanks for reading and commenting so favorably! I think music is an integral part of all of us, and moves us in a way nothing else can when we hear it. It's there for every emotion!
