Icon17 Poetry Without Words

A Mother’s warm breast,
a gentle hug,
a flower’s aroma,
warm greetings,
a thoughtful gift,
flannel pajamas
woolen socks on a cold day
thoughts at a funeral,
all are wordless semantics of the mind
asemically structured in silence
to tell what we would read
were there something to be read.

Erotic moments from music scored
in the ritual language of antiquity,
are visual poetry heard by all.
Pictograms of metonamy
are hieroglyphics,
words without letters,
the texture of poetry without words.

Very nice poem - I was actually surprised by this one - I read the 1st few lines and thought - ok this is a bit.............obvious. Then I read the following passage:

Quote:
all are wordless semantics of the mind
asemically structured in silence
to tell what we would read
were there something to be read.
That was sweet and has almost a timeless quality to it - the wording is structured just so that the point has a bit of a poignant snap to it... I am a bit wondering if by "asemically" you mean "aesthetically" or even "systematically" - I'm not familiar with this "asemically" - is that a typo?

Anyway - a very enjoyable read and you paint quite the interesting analogy, as I've always been taught that poetry is "the best words in their ultimately best order" --- Here though - you've made an interesting point that yes, perhaps when the Rossini soprano hits her highnote; That's poetry. Another way of thinking and I applaud you for that effect!

Nice share and welcome to JPiC!

Jacquii.

Thank you for your kind words. Asemically is defined as having no semantic content, i.e.,
pictograms, cave paintings, etc., as in Poems Without Words. Here is another in the same vain for your impression which is deeply appreciated: LISTEN TO THE PAINTING - Poetry in Color Forum

wow i really appreciate this once. it lacks emotion yet it is packed with it. your words are slightly cold in some areas yet the whole poem represents warmth. i really like this its quite abstract. welcome

Thea,

Thanks. Just as an aside, the focus is on the artist talking to us, the spectators. It was ment to bridge that chasm---a big one.

All the best,

Herb

p.s. Love your picture!

Ah! Interesting - must be a very little-used word - I googled it and interesting to see JPiC Forum at the top of the list LOL --> Asemically - Google Search

At anyrate - I was thinking as such for the defined; The root "a" as in asymmetrical or asexual meaning "without" and semical from "semantic" meaning "words" --- Which is to say "without words structured in silence" -- Nice!

Thanx again for the share

Jacquii.

I thought the first eight lines more visual poetry, images from words which are instantaneous, no thought needed to see them. Then you went into the next lines which pretty much say what I just did, lol.

I had clicked on this post just because I wanted to see how the title was possible. You definitely showed me how, lol.

I thought the above much more substantial in images, something you can sink your teeth into because you have to use your imagination to see what you're saying but it's worth the effort!

Great poem!
Gail
