Saving for Shoes Illegally.
Cupping her bowed head in his knowing hands
He clears his throat, whispers 'Why the tears honey?'
She struggles with an equally furvitive
'Time of the month'
And watches his mistaken grin
Until the sheets tangle with her legs.
She'll blank out her mouth and resides in her mind
He wouldn't care let alone understand.
That it's too much to explain.
She's crying for a best friend
Lost to her soul mate.
For another friendship on the chart
Broken by a selfish kiss.
For the boy who left her, ashamed
After knocking her down too many times.
For her family, too busy to have any idea
That this is where their daughter was.
She's crying for losing herself.
Hand on her head pulls her back
And she returns his smile with reluctance.
She knows he doesn't want the story
He only wants beneath the covers.
Satin or not, they graze her cheek
But pull away the tears.
She's clinging to the hope that maybe,
Just maybe, after she gets her twenty quid
He might listen to her.
