Self Loathing

Twilight lying in disparaging eyes
The secrets intermingling into brooding lies
My lips quiver as I continue to cultivate my disguise;
I anxiously await each moment.
Emotional demons gnawing in my throat
Rising liquid caused by pain; my reflection gloats
“You have been driven to tears
By your aged porcelain fears.”
The mockery erupts anger waiting to unfurl
I clench my bedraggled fist releasing power in one hurl
The glass fragmenting and tinged with blood
Replicating my surroundings in an endless, taunting
Circular cage;
Emasculated with rage
Self loathing so crisp
I slip to the ground cradling my fist.
My senses teased with the scent of heat
Overwrought with defeat.

I think that this poem embodies the title of it, "Self-Loathing" well and I can feel this with reading your poem and the images in it. I think that especially the images of smashing the glass and the rage being released in this moment crashing your fist into this glass also fits into this kind of self-loathing. I know that when I get very angry I tend to hit things without thinking, and this happened a lot more when I was feeling self-loathing and angry at myself most times.

This particular image stuck out for me to imagine:

Emotional demons gnawing in my throat

One part that I want to point out though is this right here:

I clench my bedraggled first releasing power in one hurl-

With this line right here I was wondering if you meant "fist" instead of "first."

Anywho, I did find this to be a revolutionary style and format for your poem and something very different than what I'm used to with your poems. I feel like the rhythm is pretty much kept consistent throughout your poem though and it's just an emotional read overall. Thank you for sharing and keep on writing!

thank you very much for your comment it was intended as 'fist' i will try and edit that. it was written from pure emotion, just to let it out so i understand why you call it an 'emotional read'.

i've never personally hit somthing out of anger but i've seen it done and have wanted to. i mostly hold it in and release in other ways, i.e. poetry thank you for the read, i was nervous to post somthing so dark.

I think that you did a great job especially if you aren't used to writing darker stuff. I'm like that myself, I have a few darker poetry myself but most of it isn't too dark, and there is that kind of nervousness of posting something darker... I have that kind of feeling too. The emotions of your poem kind of leap out when you're reading it... which I think is definitely from your writing it from pure emotion.

That emotion makes it a strong read because they're literally palpable. Yeah, letting out your emotions in poetry is definitely so much better than actually striking out and hitting something... I've had to retrain myself with my anger to just let it out in different ways that won't hurt me. I wish I could write poetry when I'm angry but when I do write when I feel anger I just tend to swear a whole lot and not make sense, lol. So, I'm glad you shared this with us because I like the edginess of this and having a different side to your poetry.

actually i used to write nothing BUT dark poetry when i was younger. i was suicidal and had issue's with uh...self mutilation. and that was all i wrote about. i was just sure that people only wanted to hear my light poetry. i have been writing more of that in the past five or six monthes thanks to my girlfriend. i was just nervous to see the reaction i would get from the forum though. thank you for the read and conversation
