There are regrets that hide
between spaces of seconds,
their beguiling smile tainting
the contents of an empty sigh.
Each a jigsaw piece lost beneath
the tiles of faux façade,
leaving fabrication incomplete,
and there is no holy water
to quench thirst of dried lines,
scattered like delta from salted pool.
Simplicity is complicated,
compressed silica throwing back imperfection
of stormy existence; weathered eras
melded like reclaimed glass
into a chimera of age and memories.
Finality is so much closer now,
yesterdays number more than tomorrows
and the trickle becomes a torrent
as kisses cross out innocent youth,
eroding that mountain of expectation
into a hillock of realisation,
and all about, scree that becomes
grit laying on the p(l)ain of my history.

Colin! This is amazing!! What was your inspiration? I tell ya...we certainly represent a phenomenally talented group of writers! I loved the wordsmithing and the execution was beautiful. Each stanza breaths on its own as well. Interesting read and keeps my attention from title to last word. Did I tell you I love this? lol Awesome and an excellent rating!

thank you for your encouraging reply. This was written from a prompt given to me in a contest on another poetry forum, the prompt was "The Sands Of Time" and we had to try and be orginal. I just thought of how a mirror shows us the changes in our lives and how those changes are reflected in how we look.
