What would a horse say?

Crazymamma5 and I are writing a book in the fantasy genre, Eilia. In it, Zare a horse will have a role. During a flashback, Zare becomes telepathic and aware of the world around him in a more human way.

Trying to write that transition, I came across one problem. I couldn't come up with his first word! I tried to think of what a horse's first word would be if he suddenly was able to think like humans.

I thought of wow but didn't like it. The closest I've come to deciding is "Whoa!" but thought that too obvious, lol.

I've found it's harder to think like a horse than I it would be, lol. Anyone have a suggestion?

hugs,
Gail

most likely the horse would see something and identify it with a word.....that is how people learn to speak....so i think the first word would be an object....something solid...like man....or hay....or carrot...!!!!

or sugar-lump

good luck!

How about an idea like this Gail...

"H-H-H-ell-ooooo" Zare spoke aloud to a faun, who'd been sitting next to a tree. It was a surprise to them both as Zare and the faun heard the human word for the first time. Zare had to speak it again. "H-H-H-ell-ooooo"

Just a suggestion.. Good luck in your fantasy book. Please keep us informed on it's progress.

Blessings
Sally

This creature will be the comic relief in the story so my first thought was "Wow!" but thought that much too modern of a reaction. My second thought was "Whoa!" and thought it, at first, to be more west coast than anything but have been going back to it repeatedly!

I thought that since it's one word Zare would have heard often it made sense. I like your idea though and will be talking it over with crazymamma!

Thanks, Sally!
