Wow, I can really relate to Gail's story and how she came about this website and relating it to other places... I too had a safe haven, a place I had been on for years but then my involvement with that site became less about my writing and more about drama. And I am not a fan and do not want anything to do with drama, it's bad enough whenever I have to face it in real life and stare it down.
Receiving feedback on my work was strenuous and near impossible at times. I'd give people feedback on their own work and not get any response or with my more constructive reviews even have a peeved off writer writing back to me. And, I never am mean with feedback that I give and I just want to work with the writer to improve their work or just suggest things that they can either take or leave.
I found it a wonderful feeling to give reviews and feedback on this site and have it so well accepted and the authors I reviewed really seemed to value what I did. That was fantastic because I was so used to never getting a response, having someone be peeved off, or just plain not having a positive experience from it. I was excited to get good feedback in turn and not have to jump through hoops of fire and run through an imaginary obstable course to just get 1 person to comment on my work.
I really like this place for the people who are here too. This just seems like a positive and fun community of people and I enjoy that. I came across this site in the Writer's Digest Magazine and I'm very glad I joined and became a member. Congratulations MsJacquii and happy birthday JPIC! Here's to many more wonderful years!

The community spirit, the welcoming spirit, the response of the staff and other members responding to my 'hiya!' whether in a forum or the shoutbox kept drawing me back here above all the other sites I'd joined at the time. It didn't take long for me to withdraw my work from the other sites but still I stayed with the other site. Why? I'd been there for three years, it was my safe harbor. Gradually, I realized the safety I'd felt there was an illusion and as it faded, the sheer amount of work it took just to get comments on my work wasn't worth the effort and the money I paid anymore. I took a deep breath, jumped off the springboard and left that site behind.
Plunging back into this pool of awesome talent was a relief! I'm happier, and my writing is SOOOOOO mush goodier then it was ever ben. I want to thak the staf for ther dilgenc in heping wit my spelin and gramar!
hugs,
Gail

BTW, Congrats on your 2nd anniversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You and your staff have worked hard to make this site work. The harmony is exceptional and the writing even better!
hugs,
Gail
Oh wow! GAIL you are a hoot! And I thank you much for being you. And doubly thank you for your kind words! Wow - I too have been part of online writing Forums and it's the very reason I thought to create JPiC because.... Truthfully speaking, there was so much unneeded drama on the other sites, the critique process was so stiff and cold and sometimes so rude that it would leave you with a tear in your eye, and the whole while - it just seemed like noone really CARED about the writings being submitted. So it's wonderful what you say about JPiC being a "safe harbor" or sorts - it's just the type of Community atmosphere I wanted to develop since the 1st day of JPiC being online!
So thank you for that best compliment EVER! I do wonder though - what was the other poetry Forum LOL - Cause I'm nosey like that - At anyrate - always a pleasure to help out with spelling corrections and grammar oopses - ZAAC is good for helping witht hat too hmmm - I just noticed, he's misteriously missing from this thread - hmmmmm - I wonder if he comes along and corrects the "y" in "misteriously"
