Biography: Jacquii Cooke is a 32 year old Black Poet from Oak Ridge, Tennessee. As Webmistress of Poetry in Color Forum, she is devoted to the more abstract styles, especially those with a strong feminine voice that center around the topic of redemption and righting the wrongs of past transgressions.

Guidelines for 2008
ELIGIBILITY: The 5th Texas Laughing Gull Writing Contest is open to any writer,
anywhere over 18 years old.
CATEGORIES: Three areas - Fiction, Non-fiction, Poetry
PRIZES: 1st Prize $100, 2nd Prize $50, 3rd Prize $25 will be awarded in each category. Honorable Mention Certificates will be awarded at the discretion of the judges. Individuals who have won 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Place twice in the past two years will be eligible for honorable mention only. Our aim is to widen the circle of winners.
LENGTH: Maximum of 2000 words for Fiction and Non-fiction, maximum of 50 lines for Poetry.
FORMAT: Submissions must be original and previously unpublished. They must be typewritten, double-spaced in a New Times Roman or Arial font on 8.5 x11 white paper. Include a cover sheet for each submission with your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and the title and category of your piece. Do not include your name on your submission. Type your title and category at the top of each page of your submission. If you send multiple submissions, each one must be accompanied by a separate cover sheet and entry fee. Submissions that do not meet these criteria will not be read. No e-mail submissions, please.
FEES: $5USD or $5CDN per submission, payable to “Art Center for the Islands”.
DEADLINE: Submissions must be RECEIVED by February 29, 2008. No submissions will be returned.
WINNERS will be announced at a reception in mid-April 2008. Winners will be notified by telephone or e-mail prior to the reception, and they will be invited to read their winning pieces at the reception.
