Editors' Prize Contest 2008

Each fall, Meridian sponsors an Editors' Prize Contest in fiction and poetry with $1,000 awarded in each genre. The entry fee is $16, which includes a reading of your work, a subscription to Meridian, and a chance at the $1,000 prize. Entries from the U.S. will receive a one-year, two-issue subscription to Meridian. Entries from outside the U.S. will receive only the prize issue (Spring/Summer 2007) due to additional mailing costs.
All entries (and entry fees) should be submitted electronically. This year's contest will run from October 19, 2007 through midnight on
December 20, 2007. We expect to announce winners in March 2008.
Poets may submit up to
four poems per entry. Fiction writers may submit
one story of 10,000 words or less per entry.
This year's contest will be the first run through our
new online submission system or at
Untitled Document. You will only be required to register once (assuming you don't lose your password!) and afterward you can always use the system to check your submission status or submit again without re-entering your contact info, etc. Secure payments are still routed through the University of Virginia's credit card processing system. The site does not store your credit card info.
ELIGIBILITY:- Current UVA students, staff, and faculty are NOT eligible.
- UVA alumni who graduated before June 2004 may enter the contest.
- Former Meridian staff are not eligible. (If you've been on our masthead, don't enter.)
- Friends, relatives, and former teachers of current Meridian staff are not eligible.
- Current subscribers may enter the contest for the same $16 fee. Your subscription will be extended by one year (and you will remain, as always, one of our favorite people in the world, even if you get treated like everyone else for the purposes of the contest).
