Biography: Jacquii Cooke is a 32 year old Black Poet from Oak Ridge, Tennessee. As Webmistress of Poetry in Color Forum, she is devoted to the more abstract styles, especially those with a strong feminine voice that center around the topic of redemption and righting the wrongs of past transgressions.

The Nelligan Prize For Short Fiction
  1. $1,000 will be awarded for the best short story, which will be published in the Fall/Winter 2008 issue of Colorado Review.

  2. This year’s final judge is Antonya Nelson; friends and students (current & former) of the judge are not eligible to compete, nor are Colorado State University employees, students, or alumni.

  3. Fee is $10 per entry, payable to Colorado Review; there is no limit on the number of entries you may submit.

  4. Stories must be previously unpublished.

  5. There are no length or theme restrictions.

  6. All manuscripts must be typed and double-spaced.

  7. No submissions via e-mail.

  8. Include two cover sheets: on the first, print your name, address, telephone number, and the story title; on the second, print only the story title. Your name should not appear anywhere else on the manuscript.

  9. Provide SASE for contest results.

  10. Manuscripts will not be returned.

  11. Contest opens January 15, 2008.

  12. Deadline is the postmark of March 15, 2008.

  13. Winner will be announced in July 2008.

  14. All submissions will be considered for publication.
