Pen Names
Hello, Everyone,
I am working on an article about why some authors use pen names. I was wondering if anyone here would like to be included in this research and tell me they have a pen name and why they decided to use one. I appreciate any replies. Thanks for your time!

Hi Cali,
Thought I would share. Thank you for sharing your research to include us.
I am a Scientist, Science Teacher, Mentor, Guest Professor, Worked for NASA for one year, Artist, Writer, Poet, and Pianist. So when I get a chance to write and do my artwork, it is a very tranquil, and serene experience for me. My "get away", if you will.
The "Diary" part comes from listening to people tell me their experiences and stories. My own experiences as well. Or watching people, life, nature, etc. I write things in my "Diary", then compose. Then, I like to do a painting, or drawing, or stained-glass piece to compliment the poem or story.
One day, I took my niece (14 yrs old now, but 8 yrs old at the time) to the park. I took out my oil pastels, my easel, and began to paint. My niece was reading my diary (I had written the word "Diary" on the front of it) , we had lunch, got on the swings and such. I dropped her off at my sister's home, and when I got home, I noticed something. My niece had written the word "Painted", over top of the word "Diary". I called her, and asked her, why did she do that, and she said, "Because you paint peoples diaries, and I think that is beautiful." That brought tears to my eyes. Hence, the name "Painted Diary".

Oh, wow! That is a beautiful story on how you choose your pen name, or rather it seems to have chosen you in a way. Thank you so much for sharing with me. I can't wait to hear what others have to say as well.

PaintedDiary,
I was just wondering you use "PaintedDiary" as a user name for forums alone or if you use it for publishing work. It's kind of a quirky question I guess but I was reading through your post the other day and I'm leaning toward the fact that you were referring to your "user name" than a "pen name". That's fine. I just wanted to make it clear which one you were talking about. Have a great day.

Cali,
Yes, I may have read it correctly, and thought something else. My "Username" is "Painted Diary", however, I am "NOT" a published Author yet.......
However, when I become a published Author, then "YES", I still will use Painted Diary. Hope I am making sense, sorry. Take Care.

Okay. Thanks for clarifying that. I was pretty sure you were referring to your user name. Still I think Painted Diary would be a cool pen name as well for when you do get published. As I'm sure you know it takes a LOT of time and persistance to reach that goal but in the end it's worth it! Have a great day!
