Have you heard of ‘pay back’? I mean not people borrowed money from you and you call him/her to pay back. It’s the pay back that you got after you help someone. But I didn’t mean that you help others because you want others to pay you back. You don’t go after the person and take it as a good deed. What I mean is…sometimes, people take advantage of you too, don’t be angry. No one is perfect, and no one will be same as your expectation. If it is just a peccadillo, just condone it. Let me share a story...
Caught in the cold winter, Jack, a beggar, was begging people for money and food, heartlessly they don’t even give enough a dollar. His hunger had him almost killed. He decided to knock for food. Hours passed, none gave him food, until he knocked this particular house, the poorest of all. It was a young sweet lady with the loveliest smile he ever seen. He got embarrassed and asked the lady if she had a glass of milk. The lady invited him to sit while she poured a big glass of milk for him. Deeply in touched, he asked how much milk he would get for 67 cents. “Free”, replied the lady, “Doing something good to help others is my job, I don’t need your money”. He thanked and drank it in a matter of seconds. The lady gave Jack ten dollars before he leave, she told him to take care.
Years flew so fast and the lady had an illness that no doctor could cure. On the other hand, Jack was now a free-treat doctor that earns money from donations, sponsors and his writings. When Jack knew this, he immediately read up books and encyclopedia, discovered the cure to the lady’s illness. Successfully, he cured her illness. When the lady woke up, Jack’s nurse gave her the bill and walked away. The lady found it strange as she had not paid her bill. She checked the bill and saw Jack’s signature with some words above it. He wrote, “Paid full from a glass of milk.” The lady took a while before she realized that the doctor was the beggar she gave the glass of milk to.
You will feel good when you help someone. Sometimes, bad luck struck, and you’ll never know if those that you helped may help you. There’s a phrase by Alain, it says '
The true and noble way to kill a foe is not to kill him. You, with kindness, may so change him, that he shall cease to be so, and then he is slain. '
