My Girl

She's young … no not a child … yet not a woman
with long sunbeam hair she refuses to tie back
so that it clings to the corners of her mouth
and her fringe bobs in time with the blinks
of her long eyelashes and knowing it annoys me
she gives a feminine flick of her head so that
i get a brief aspect of outrageously blue eyes
that melt my heart before being hidden again.
She's so chuffed she doesn't suck her thumb now
and her nails have grown for the first time on such
long supple educated fingers that glide across her mobile
seemingly without touching, yet within seconds
she's smiling at an sms reply blinking back at her.
She's young … squealing in delight: "higher … higher."
as the park swing seems about to launch her into orbit
away from me never to return again.
she's woman … instructing me over her shoulder:
"hold tight!" as she throws the snarling quad bike
around a corner scaring me … but I hesitate
unsure about where my hands should be.
"Put your arms around my waist," she cries
grabbing at my hand … "then you won't fall off."
she's child … she's woman and when she calls
my heart flips … and my spirit soars when I hear:
"hi … just phoning to say I luv ya grandpa."

Yayness ^^ To be honest though i saw it more as a father/daughter thing until the very end that it said "hi … just phoning to say I luv ya grandpa." then i realized it was from a grandfathers point of view. It made me think of my dad though o.o
