Public Housing or the Prajects

Project- A plan or course of action; a proposal; a large job. To give an estimation on something.

I'm not sure why we called this place a project. These are just a few of my memories of the place or public housing in which we lived then.

the projects or what the heck and who's

project was this we had so many people living next-store

and what a roar so intimidating so and look-at

dat boy he gotta rash

the projects and what the hell all des people living

on top of one another for ... Me not being able to get

out much at the time only being about nine and I don't want this stuff to
rhyme

the projects and what the heck and the nonstop noise

and all de's wannabe tuff boy's

Also the sun did shine over the rolling hills and dey put a tree in

da middle of the cement.. In the projects

the projects and what the heck

we had monkey bars......oh and you could still see the star's

and we also had Vince's down da street which always smelled so sweet

with every kind candy you could eat

You really got on a roll here, michael! I like it! I especially like your word-play on next-store. I suspect that PRAJECTS in the title is NOT a typo but a combination of "pray" and "rejects"? Thanks for posting, I enjoyed reading this!

Thanks so much for your comments. I was playing around with the word projects/prajects. Like hearing a certain word over and over again the sound of it changes maybe. And my mother would tell me to go next-store or go over to the next apartment where are neighbors lived and ask them to call us a taxi lol. Thanks again

I just wanted to say thanks so much for your comments. Actually I did not intend to make this sound so bleak this living in the projects...to me it's not really about where you live or where you come from. Sometimes people living in the most beautiful home's are more unhappy than people living in the projects. And your right...life is good as you can make it for yourself. And keep making life for you as good as you can. ......thanks again

yw michael, yeah where you live doesn't really shape who you are thats a message mixed in as well, although you made living in the projects almost envieable, I hope that more people who live in the projects don't let that scenario get them down if they read this poem it could open their eyes,
great sharing with you, and I will try to make the best of my life

This was very neat to read. I actually began to smell the cooking in the hallways and see the dogs running loose in the playground. I loved the silver linings you shared, like still being able to see the stars (can't say that for Downtown Toronto) and the placing of a tree in the cement. How hopeful is that? WTG Michael. Perhaps it isn't the place that is the "project", but the inhabitants themselves. If you and your talent are any indication of the outcome then I would say the project is complete, and a huge success!

Thank you so much...And what's wrong with Downtown Toronto? I'm sure it's a beautiful place right? I'm glad that you were able to relate to this. And yes I always want to keep the silver linings in mind. For awhile it seemed that their were no silver linings or maybe they just didn't seem all that silver then.
Anyway I look forward to reading your work. And I'm really touched by your comments. Thanks again.
